Color is hard. We have all brought home dozens upon dozens of paint chips and fabric samples to test. Sometimes we like the color at first, then, the next day we take a peek again and it has altered completely. Other times we decide we like the color and paint the wall. Then, right in front of our eyes, the color seems to change. 

There are a few ways to make your color simpler. 

#1 Keep It Neutral

No this does not mean no color. It simply means keep your colors less vibrant. Stick with the blue, black, white, and grey. Keep the colors clean. 

When you decide to spice things up, you can add a strong accent piece with a bold pattern and some additional color. Though it is bold, it won’t overwhelm the space because of the neutral colors surrounding it. 

#2 Blend Your Colors

It’s good to have vibrant colors sometimes. It brings excitement to a room. Sometimes we’re so scared of bright colors, however, that we never even attempt using them. I know I’m guilty of this myself. 

We have to remember. If you don’t like it you can always return it. The most important part about bright colors and patterns is that you need to blend them. Use neutral colors and solid patterns alongside the exciting colors and patterns. These help to break up the room and design an area where the eye can rest. 

It’s fun to have color! Spread it out… have contrast… and it can be a success. 

#3 Tone it Up… or Down

One of the most difficult things for people to do is match their colors. One reason for this is tone. In order to match colors you have to understand tone. 

When buying new colors, you must make sure that the blue at home with a grey undertone will match the purple at the store; but, the purple at the store has a yellow undertone. It won’t work! Tones must match or the colors will seem off. 

The use of tones allow the colors in your room to seem deeper and more full even though you are using the same color at times. The color appears more full because of the grey that was added or the lack of grey that is there. As you fill a room with the same color the eye will feel the depth and difference.
